i needed reminding how good the shining was, so i watched it again.
the shining
heh. jack is bonkers from the word go...
had a go with hancock now the r5 is out. was a bit poor, with plot holes i could get a saab through, but i liked the bit where he first took to the air and got birdstrike, and his first pr gig where he tries to smile and ends up looking like one of the plasticine critters off of creature comforts.
hancock
as is the case with these star vehicles, it coulda been so much better.
wanted, however, gets a thumbs up from me. okay, so i'm biased, as i like the directors earlier works, night watch and day watch. when you can see where he's coming from, then watching wanted with a suspension of disbelief is actually quite easy - except for the crappy script!
night watch
day watch

was it trying too hard to be like fight club?
another allegedly good film to seek out is six reasons why. looks well stylish, but didn't get to stay awake for all of it. this is what happens after a full days laning, a good curry, vino and a comfy chair.
six reasons why
it's a futuristic western, with cult written all over it. could be a good thing.
doomsday just didn't do it for me. i'm sock into the first two mad max films, which kinda set the benchmark for the genre. doomsday didn't really know what it wanted to be, so it seemed to copy all the good bits from all the good films - and not do any of it very well.
can i recommend el orfanato? it proper sent shivers down my spine for most of the film. if you can bear subtitles, get a copy of this.
the orphanage
just watch out for the kid with the sack on his head.
queueing for attention:
solaris criterion edition - the origional soporific russian film.
missing - tsui hark, stylish and subtitled.
8 and a half women. more auteurism, greenaway style.
nuit noire. not a very jolly film, apparently.
here's hoping for a dark night screener very soon!
hey rr, can you switch off these ads?
