Six of us went and had a go at this. Hooning through a forest in Wales. Ruts, roots, drop offs, descents down through the woods, long VERY steep climbs on flint so no traction and a very small amount of fire road linking the sections. There was ice everywhere and we had snow because we were so high! Bloody fantastic! One of the lads did his back so became video biatch for the afternoon. He uploaded it. Let it buffer as its a big file. As ever the hard stuff looks easy! (Why is that?!). The last climb where Bill had three attempts (he made it on his fourth) saw loads of people turn round and give up. The next one is Sat 1st March and there will be around a dozen of us booked on that if anyone fancies it. The vid: http://media.putfile.com/Monkey-WOR-Experience-2-2-08 |

I cant remember exactly where it was - about half an hour from Bala on the side of a 'kin great hill! It was a 4.5 mile course and was like nothing I've ever done before. It wa awesome! They are all around that area on private land. Just need legal tyres and not too noisy exhaust I think. Cost is £50 for the day all in. You have to book on the website (http://www.worevents.com/ to guarantee a place as they have max of 50-80 entries depending on the venue. They limit it to keep it novice friendly, whereas the race entries (which are the following day) are much higher numbers. The next one is Sat 1st March. Venue not sorted yet, but entries are open. So far nine of us off muddymonkeys are booked onto it! The morning is free laps - then after lunch (normally) an hours race - then free course if you want to do any more. They didn't do the race on this one. The conditions were tough and the course was very technical so they went round and asked everyone what they would prefer. 40 people said they didnt want a race and some said they would just go home if it was a race as they didnt feel they could do it. They want to encourage people to get involved so shelved the race. I was a bit disappointed but happy to accept the decision as it suited everyone that was with me. Brilliant day and really looking forward to the next one. Big thread on muddymoneys in the rideout report section if anyone wants to read about it. It also gives details of my 'International Rescue' on the M56 when Thunderbird WR450 was deployed out of the back of Thunderbird Fiat 'with no fuel' Ducato! |
